[edit]Hey Snorre, welcome back. A lot has changed since December 2001 (I think that's when you last contributed -- our software isn't very good at measuring such large timescales). Not that I'd know because I wasn't here in December 2001. Anyway, I hope you manage to find your way around. If you have any questions, ask on the souped up, streamlined Wikipedia:Village pump. By the way most people put their contributions on either their user page, or a subpage of their user page, say User:Snorre/Contributions, rather than their talk page. -- Tim Starling 07:56, Oct 22, 2003 (UTC)

Thanx mate, So what then is this talk-thing for? I just jotted down something here, since it was easily accessible (link up on top-right whereever I go..)
- It's for talking to users. Whenever someone changes your talk page, a "you have new messages" link appears at the top of any page you view. Sometimes people reply to such comments on the same page, but often they reply on the other user's talk page. It's generally considered rude these days to alter another person's user page, except to revert vandalism.
- OK, kewl.. I might 'get' all of this after a while.
- Are you from Lake Macquarie? What part? -- Tim Starling 07:51, Oct 23, 2003 (UTC)
- Im originally from Stavanger, Norway, but came to Newcastle to attend University of Newcastle (NSW) apx 3 years ago. I was an avid participant (Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays) in Yacht Races out of LMYC up until January this year when a friend moved his boat to the newly established Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club which is just down the road from where I currently reside..
- Cool. I'm from Morisset originally, at the southwest side of the lake. Lake Macquarie is certainly a nice place for sailing -- there's lots of room but it's relatively calm. So are you enjoying Australia? -- Tim Starling 05:22, Oct 25, 2003 (UTC)
- Sure am. Got a lovely GF and am currently in the process of applying for permanent residency (better hurry, before they throw me out..)
USS Amsterdam
[edit]Hi, ship articles like USS Amsterdam are really just fancy disambiggers, plus we have articles like US Navy and USS Independence (CVL-22) that already have the extlinks, so I removed them from the Amsterdam page. Stan 17:08, 3 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Hi Stan, Thanx for fixing up the USSAmsterdam article, I just fixed it up myself and would have done what U have done if I noticed the wiki articles. Thanx for letting me know too... Sorry I didnt post this reply on your site, but I were'nt allowed (Connection closed by server?) Cheers, -Antwelm 13:31, 2003 Nov 5 (UTC)
Picture licencing
[edit]Hi. What's the license of this image: Image:Newcastle australia.jpg? GFDL? --Jonik 21:02, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- I have not decided what license any of my pictures here are going to be under.. (C) will suffice for now :)
- If anyone wants to use them outside of Wikipedia, I would like to be notified about its intended use, and we take it from there.
--Antwelm 04:16, 2005 Jan 11 (UTC)
- I do not agree, with the best will in the world, that (C) will suffice for now. One rationale of wikipedia is that it is possible to replicate it through the GFDL or other open licences. You cannot at one and the same time support that but be equivical about the licence terms on your copyrighted image: that will - again with the best well - merely lead to the deletion of the image, since having content of unverified copyright/licence poses a legal risk to wikipedia. There are lots of different licences: go wild at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags ... please. thanks --Tagishsimon (talk)

Hi, I'm just responding to the note you left on my talk page regarding Image:Nobbys head.jpg and the fact that I tagged it as GFDL. In this case, it was not a mistake. All contributions to wikipedia are licenced under the GFDL (See: Wikipedia:Copyrights). In the case of images we have to make exceptions because most images are not owned by the people who contribute them; those images which are owned by the contributor are assumed to be GFDL unless this is explicitly stated otherwise (See: Wikipedia:Untagged images). As an extension, the fact that your image was marked (C) does not indicate the licence status of the image, merely that you own the rights to it (which is why I thought I could assume GFDL). For example, I can own an image and mark it (C) Lommer and publish it under the GFDL. So all in all, I'm sorry that your image got caught up in this and I hope that this explanation can smooth whatever feathers I've ruffled. -Lommer | talk 20:56, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Speedy deletion
[edit]Hello. The article, when it was speedy deleted, said itself that she was new and hadn't even really done anything yet. I am not an administrator so I am afraid I cannot undelete a page, but if you talk to an administrator they may be able to undelete it for you. Thank you. --AndreniW 06:25, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Deepthroat original LP 1972 trunkrecords.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Deepthroat original LP 1972 trunkrecords.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 20:23, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Deepthroat original LP 1972 trunkrecords.gif)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Deepthroat original LP 1972 trunkrecords.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. NotifyBot (talk) 13:06, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Wikimania 2010 could be coming to Stockholm!
[edit]I'm leaving you a note as you may be interested in this opportunity.
People from all six Nordic Wiki-communities (sv, no, nn, fi, da and is) are coordinating a bid for Wikimania 2010 in Stockholm. I'm sending you a message to let you know that this is occurring, and over the next few months we're looking for community support to make sure this happens! See the bid page on meta and if you like such an idea, please sign the "supporters" list at the bottom. Tack (or takk), and have a wonderful day! Mike H. Fierce! 08:12, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello Snorre! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 3 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:
- Mark Richards (surfer) - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Invitation to Sydney editathon - Saturday 23rd November
[edit]There is a backstage pass coming up to be followed by an editathon in the State Library of New South Wales on Saturday 23 November. I'm hoping you might be able to make it down the big smoke for the occasion. This is the first time that an Australian cultural institution has opened its doors to us in this way and will be a special opportunity because the Library is providing: one of its best rooms; its expert curators (along with their expertise and their white gloves); a newly launched website (containing new resources); and of course, items from its collection (including rare and usually unavailable material) which we can look at, learn from, and use, to improve WP articles. For example, on the chosen topic (Australia and WWI), the Library holds many diaries and manuscripts from the period.
As you can see from the Library's project page, they have connected this editathon with their own work. They have already set out a wide range of resources to make things easier for us. Please sign up on the editathon project page if you can participate either online or in person with other Wikipedians. Hope to see you there! (Sorry if you've received this message before - I did a quick check but didn't see it.) 99of9 (talk) 11:01, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
- Appreciate the opportunity. Unable to attend since I'm currently in Norway. 161.4.82.7 (talk) 18:08, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
